Papers in section A comprise:
1 Manorial (limited papers only, for the bulk of the manorial papers see XMO/1037)
2 Wills and Inheritance
3 Mortgages raised on the Linley Estate
8 Estate Management (it is probable that the material was kept in this collection due to its relevance to inheritance.)
9 Personal papers
10 More of Millichope
11 Mytton of Shipton
12 Mytton of Cleobury North
13 The Grange Estate
14 Pedigrees and Arms.
The papers relating to the different branches of the family, More of Millichope, Mytton of Millichope etc etc, have been kept as separate series to reflect the order in which they had been boxed up and arrived here. These contain personal papers relating to Mytton family members.
Papers relating to the Larden Estate have been combined into the main series due to the inheritance pattern of the Larden Estate which was at times combined and at times separate to the Linley Estate. See Burke's Landed Gentry 1914. The series of mortgages had been split up but has now been reconstructed into a single series.
The collection is interesting and varied. Perhaps the highlights are the significant amount of letters that survive. These include correspondence relating to 18th century improvements at Linley (9071/A/9/2/1), the botanical interests of Robert More (9071/A/9/2/2), letters from Henry James More written from Lisbon during the peninsular campaign of 1811 (9071/A/9/4/3), the election campaigns of Jasper More (9071/A/9/11/1-30) and extensive letters to Thomas Mytton of Cleobury North, (9071/A/12/4/1).
Papers in section B comprise:
1 Wills and Settlements
2 Shropshire Estates - general
3 Netley Estate
4 Greete Estate
5 Harnage Grange Estate
6 London Estates - see 9197
7 Dorrington Church
8 Other Churches/Official Papers
9 Personal Papers
11 Family Photographs
12 Paintings and Pictures
14 Miscellaneous Maps and Plans
There are a significant number of papers relating to the rebuilding of Netley Hall (9071/B/3/5-6), the building of Dorrington Church (9071/B/7) and a good series of early deeds for the Greete Estate (9071/B/. Amongst the personal papers are diaries of John Thomas Hope (9071/B/9/4/1) and Thomas Henry Hope (9071/B/9/6/1) and charades, parlour games and poems belonging to Ellen Hester Mary (9071/B/5). There are also papers reflecting the military and political career in India of Sir Benjamin Herbert Hope-Edwardes (9071/B/9/13).
