Online resources

If you aren’t able to visit in person, there are a number of resources you can access online:

  • Shropshire parish and non-conformist registers up to 1900 – you can search within these or browse for a name on the FindMyPast website.
  • Census returns, 1841-1911 – these are on both FindMyPast and Ancestry, along with lots more family history records.

FindMyPast and Ancestry are both subscription sites. Anyone with a Shropshire Library ticket can take advantage of temporary free access to FindMyPast and Ancestry, although FindMyPast has restrictions on the number of total searches allowed each day/month under this scheme. Find out more on the Shropshire Libraries e-library page.

  • Photographs, prints and watercolours of Shropshire – you can view some wonderful images on our online catalogue . Learn how to search here.

Our catalogue

You can also search our online catalogue – just use the search box at the top of the page. Many records, such as poor law settlements and some property deeds, are catalogued in great detail.

We are continuing to add new lists to our online catalogue. Check our blog posts on new collections for updates and our catalogue help pages for tips on searching.
