Shropshire Archives is open in a phased way from 21 April 2021.

Access for people with disabilities

There are two parking spaces at the Castle Gates entrance. These are reserved for people with blue badges or who find walking difficult. Please book a space in advance:

Inside, all public areas, including the toilets, are accessible to wheelchairs.

We have a ‘clear star viewer’ which uses CCTV technology to enlarge pages from printed books for you. We also have a hand-held video magnifier, which you can use with documents and maps in our Search Room.

Our free guides to sources can all be printed in large text – please ask staff for details.

For a helpful visual guide to the building and facilities, visit the AccessAble site.

Normally, if you visit in the morning 10am-1pm, members of the Shropshire Family History Society provide a help desk. The person on duty can give you help, for example with carrying items or reading information for you. In some instances, we can also arrange one-to-one orientation tours to help on your first visit. The help desk is currently not available due to COVID restrictions but we hope to resume this soon.

Please contact us in advance if you want to discuss anything else before you visit.
